1.
When you first start, you will see the "Select Your Character Or Create a New One" screen. Press the ‘Create New Character’ button
This is where you can create new characters, change a character’s nickname, select a death method, or destroy an existing character. Since this is your first time in Sociolotron, we will step through creating your first character.

Click on the Create New Character button at the bottom left of the screen. Te following, slightly busy looking screen, appears. The character creation window is actually several windows or sections in one, and we will deal with each section individually.

2. The first section, is where you name your character, as well as give it a nickname, as well as select your character’s gender.
Type in a First Name(1) and Last Name(2) for your character. Your character’s First Name is permanent and can not be changed. The Last Name can only be changed by marriage and/or divorce. The "Nick Name"(3) is the name which appears when your character’s face is hidden by a mask. Nicknames may be changed on the Character Selection window. Changes to a nickname in the character log-in screen take place as soon as you log that character back in, not in the 2-3 days as noted here.
Note: Only alpha (A-z) or numeric (0-9) characters are permitted in a name. No spaces are allowed in the First or Last Name of your character. Nicknames may have spaces. Please keep in mind that some names are not permitted to be used such as, Master or Counselor. Some other names may also be banned do to various reasons. If you pick any of the banned names, the system will automatically reject your character name after you press the "create character" button. See the FAQ section for a list of banned names.
To change your character’s nickname, select the Change button to the right of your character name. A nickname may contain alpha (A-z) or numeric (0-9) characters and spaces, as noted previously.

3. Select if your character will be Male, or Female, by clicking on the appropriate button. Notice that your paperdoll will reflect this selection.

4. Select a skin tone, hair style, hair color for your character from the list provided. The skin tone selection is illustrated immediately in your paperdoll, so try each one, and select the one you prefer. Once your character is created, skin tone can not be changed.
.

Note: as you make certain selections in your character creation, the paper doll image at the bottom right will change, reflecting the choices you make

5. Next you will select the Physical Attractiveness of your character. This selection does not appear on your character during the game, or in the paperdoll image. During the game, clicking on a character will reveal this characteristic. What you select here, may impact certain capabilities in the game, particularly with the Non-Playing Charactera (NPCs) as you play. These impacts are varied, and depend upon the actions being taken, and will be discussed in another section. Most implications though are obvious by the attractiveness. A prostitute for example will likely wish to be Very Pretty. A murderer and rapist may wish to appear Primitive.

5. We are going to create a basic character, just to learn the game play. This is not likely to be a character you will keep for long.
You will need to select the occupation of your character. As you gain more experience through your game play, you may purchase other skills in the future.
For this tutorial we will be using the Harvester occupation, with Mace selected as the weapon type.
You have the ability to change the default abilities. You can find more information in the Character Features section of the manual.
At this point, you may wish to accept the default settings, or modify them. To change settings, you must reduce one, to create a pool, then you can add to another Ability. For the sake of this tutorial, let's stay with the default Abilities settings for now.

6.
Finally, press the ‘Create Character’ button located under the paperdoll
window. Or you wish to abandon this character, and start over, press Cancel.
Either way, you will return to the character log-in screen where you may select
your character, and head on into the game.

7. You should select your preferred death method. You may click on the far right button behind your character name to toggle between the two options, Use Heir, or Go to Hell. If your character is Permanent Killed (Pked), this option takes effect.
NOTE: If you have not made this option selection, your character, and all their belongings are destroyed.
If you select use heir, you will have to select your preferred heir, once you have one. If you have no heirs, you may wish to use the Go To Hell option, until you have an heir to use.
8. Notice now, that you now have a character listed on the first Play button of the Character Log-in Screen. Clicking on the button with your character name will load the game and land you as a new character, in Stratford Market Plaza.
