Gardener

The gardener skill is a more complex skill than most of the other production skills. It also goes a little beyond pure manufacturing and it also uses a different system to manufacture.

This skill serves two purposes: To grow domesticated plants and to install those plants in privately owned houses. It enables therefore some sort of interior decoration profession.

Making fertile dirt

Fertile dirt is an essential part of gardening and growing plants. Fertile dirt can be made by anyone and not only by gardeners, they are however primarily used by gardeners. In order to make fertile dirt, you need to use a mop that is of Q100 (Quality 100). Every time you mop up a blood stain or any other stains, its quality reduces, once the mop reaches Q0 it gets converted to fertile dirt and is placed in your inventory. In order to make a lot of fertile dirt carry a lot of un stacked mops in your inventory while killing NPCs and keep moping up the blood stains, making each mop into fertile dirt one at a time.

How To Grow Plants

This section describes how a gardener creates plants. You need one or more of the following items:

1 Empty plant pot

1 Fertile Dirt

1 Plant seed

1-3 empty water jars

and of course gardening skill. In order to plant a seed and eventually grow a plant follow these steps:

The last step must be repeated once every day to keep the pot watered for 3 days. You get a full jar from an empty jar by dragging an empty jar over a kitchen sink which fills the jar. When you water a plant, there is a chance that you break the jar and you need a new one. Fertile dirt is created by composting dirty mops.

Once three days have passed, the server determines whether you grow a plant or not. It does so by checking your gardening skill. The higher the skill, the higher the chance that you grow a plant. If you loose the skill check, the pot is destroyed. If your check is successful, the pot is replaced with a plant of the type of the seed. The plant is locked down and can be unlocked by the gardener and picked up.

The new plant has a life span of up to 14 days. It needs no watering, however. The life span of the plant can be read as it's Quality value when you hover the mouse over it. Every day, this number decreases and when it reaches 0, the plant disappears.

How To Proceed

There are basically two ways to proceed from here: You can either cut up the plant, which gives you seeds to create more plants, or you can sell the plant to another character who might want to decorate his house with it.

If you want to gain more seeds, then double-click the plant while you have a sword or other blade in your hand. Only the owner of the plant can do this to protect plants from vandalism. Depending on your gardening skill you will receive 1-4 seeds of the same type as the plant and also XP depending on your skill level. However, the more often you do this, the less XP you gain. The next day, you start with the full XP gain again and your gain diminishes over the day again. You can only gain seeds and XP from freshly grown plants, they must not be older than 2 days, otherwise you will not be able to cut them down.

If you rather like to sell the plant, you can put them in a vendor and sell them to people who want to decorate their house.

There are also some domesticated wild plants available. When you cut them open, you can gain some raw materials from them, just like a harvester does in the wild.
