PC guards are PC characters who have been made guard by the district's judge. Their main task is to check the streets for criminals and arrest them, but also to work on crime files on behalf of the prosecutor.
A guard who wears a Visor is able to see
whether a character he meets has a warrant or
not. If yes, he may attempt to arrest him. A guard can ask wanted criminal to
surrender and go to prison. To do so, he selects the criminal and then clicks
the surrender button on his Justice Tab.
He can do that anytime even if a NPC guard has done it once and flagged the criminal in such a way that no NPC guard will give him a warning any more. PC guards are therefore able to arrest a criminal who is willing to give up, when NPC guards won't. However a guard can only arrest criminals who are wanted in their district or in a district to which their district extradites.
PC guards can also follow an abuser who is flashing red into any house. Any locked door a flashing abuser passes through becomes passable for PC guards for 20 minutes. The guard must pay attention that he leaves the house within the 20 minutes otherwise he is trapped and may have to break a lock to get out which may make him a criminal himself! Therefore it's important to use this feature swift, arrest or kill a criminal and leave the place again. Don't abuse the feature to snoop around or you might get trapped.
Guards may also be asked by a prosecutor to investigate a crime file further if the prosecutor feels that not enough evidence exist to get a conviction against a character. Guards are especially suited for this task because they can be reimbursed by the judge and therefore can spend money upfront to buy clues from vendors. How much they spend and how much they should be reimbursed is a matter of trust between the judge, the prosecutor and the guard.
Guards and entering premises
Guards cannot be booted from a property, if declared hostile by a shareholder or a rental contract holder they will only begin to flash, unlike other PCs that are booted from the property. However guards cannot be declared hostile by a shareholder or rental contract holder if there is a wanted person on the premises, there is however an exception to the rule, if the guard is masked, he can be declared hostile by shareholders and rental contract holders even if there is a wanted person on the premises. The thinking behind this is that if a guard wants to make an arrest he has to show himself as a guard and should not hide behind a mask.
