Just as in the real world, clothes are very important in Sociolotron. They serve various purposes:
According to these categories there are various features clothes have and that make different clothes more suitable for different purposes. First let's examine the common tasks that all clothes have in common: Wearing and taking off.
The following picture shows how to wear clothes that are in your inventory:

Just take any piece of clothing from your inventory, or from the floor if it is within reach, and drag it on the paperdoll. If the clothes can be worn, it will be put on and appear on the paperdoll and on the graphic screen.
To take off a piece of clothing, follow the next picture:

Just grab the clothing with the left mouse button and drag it into your inventory. Make sure that you release the button when the mouse is on a white spot between other objects. Do not release the mouse when it is over an object. The server will attempt to stack the dress with the object and that will only work if both objects are of the same type. If not, the removal operation will fail.
You may also drag a clothing from the floor on your paperdoll or from your paperdoll on the floor instead of your inventory.
Clothes are made by craftsmen which is not covered here.
Most clothes have an armor value in the range 0 - 100 which you can find in the items table that is accessible from your client's help menu. The armor values of all clothes you wear is added up to form your total armor value. when you go into battle it is a good idea to put on as much armor as possible.
Whenever a hit occurs it is possible that a random piece of armor you are wearing loses some quality. Watch the quality of your armor carefully. when it becomes 0 the clothes becomes useless and disappears and you need to replace it.
Your armor value can be seen in the Stats Window above your paperdoll. IN the above examples it is 0 since the clothes are not armored.
The second task of clothing is to serve common decency and cover up private parts. In order to do so, each piece of clothing covers a set of body parts. for example a bra covers the breasts and the nipples, a thong covers the vagina, but not the butt and so on. In order to comply with common decency, you must cover your genitals and also cover so-and-so much of your body, both of which is measured in percent.
You can get a good estimation of the degree of coverage of your body and your genitals by just looking at your character by double clicking it. Here is an example of what you might see:
A normal woman in her early 40s .
She wears a slightly decorated dress like a Bavarian waitress would wear it on
Oktoberfest. It looks very vulgar when worn without a blouse under it , a silk
mask that covers the eyes with little cat ears at the top , a pair of tight
fitting gloves reaching up to the elbow and a pair of high heels shows with
ankle straps .
Her mouth looks normal . Her nose is of normal length and of normal width . Her
curly hair is cut very short, worn tight on her head and it is platinum white .
Her skin is of bluish black- color and she is very dark .
Her breasts are fat and heavy and give her a vulgar look , they are firm and
strong, the nipples point upward and they look absolutely plain, no veins are
visible in the skin . Her nipples are extremely big , they are a thick henna
shade , the aureole is extremely large , it's outline is not sharp but rather
blurred , the nipples are absolutely flat and don't stand out at all and the
nipples are extremely swollen and sore . The back looks normal . Her upper legs
are quite average and the lower legs are average .
She is standing upright, the arms passively at the side .
----------------------------------------------
[Moral value of clothes: 37 / Degree at which the body is covered: 40 percent /
Degree at which the genitals are covered: 50 percent
As you can see here you get a description of a persons body in natural language with the exposed body parts described but not those body parts that are covered by clothes. For example the breast free dress shows the breasts but not the belly, vagina or butt.
The last line sums up the clothes in numbers. You can see that about 40% of the body is covered. this is because the dress leaves the breasts free and the legs. Certain body parts that are usually not covered like the face don't count here. the genitals are covered at 50% because the vagina is covered but not the breasts, which count as genitals for this purpose (hey, we're Americans) and which are left free by this particular dress. Finally you see, that the moral value of the clothes is 37% in total. All clothing have a moral value of which the average is calculated. For example a dominatrix leather harness has a very low moral value while a long skirt has a high moral value.
How are these values used?
The degree of body coverage is used in two locations:
and
The degree of coverage of the genitals is used in a lot more places. In general there is a boundary of 40% coverage under which genitals are considered to be exposed. In the following list we assume that genitals are covered at 40% or less when we talk about exposed genitals.
The clothings average moral value is used only when seducing another character. Your average moral must then match the moral of the seduction victim to increase your chances of success. When you seduce a low morality character, your clothes should have low morality and vice versa.
Finally, clothes serve aesthetic purposes. You want your character to look good and reflect your ideas of his personality. To do so you may combine clothes freely with a few rules in mind. In addition to the fact that each item covers one or more body parts, each item is on a layer. Imagine these layers like the layers of an onion from the inside out. Or take a more practical example: Your own clothes. You probably have several pieces of clothes that cover your chest: bra, undershirt, shirt, a jacket and a coat which you can all wear one over the other. However you would not wear two jackets because they cover the same body parts and are on the same layer. On the other hand, a skirt or long trousers may be considered on the same layer as the jacket but they cover different body parts so they can be worn together with the jacket. A corset for example would be considered at the same level as the bra and since a corset may also cover the breasts it conflicts with the bra. If it was a breast free corset on the other hand, it could be worn with the bra.
Each piece of clothing in Sociolotron has a layer and a set of body parts associated with it and only if there is no conflict, meaning the same body part on the same layer, can two pieces of clothing be worn together. Of course there is also the gender distinction, a male can not wear female clothes and vice versa. When you try to wear two pieces of clothing that conflict, you will not be able to wear them and you get a message.
The layers also determine which clothing is drawn over which one. For example thigh high boots are drawn over a cat suit but under a skirt. There may be clothes that are identical but are on different layers so that they can be worn in different situations. Check the items table for those clothes
Some clothes can be locked in place. When that is the case, the clothing can not be taken off without the key. A lock pick can be used to break the lock, just as a door lock. Most of these lockable clothes work as chains, shackles and so on. The effects are described in a separate section. As far as clothes are concerned, lockable clothes work exactly as normal clothes with all the values and effects described here.
