Holding & Chaining

Holding

Holding a character can be performed against his wishes or with his consents.  In order to hold a character, stand close to him and select him in your paperdoll. Then click on the Contact Tab:

In the list to the right you will see those body parts of his that are accessible, also some of the cloths he is wearing may appear there. Select one entry, then click the Hold button down (should be down by default) and then click the Contact button. This will initiate an attempt to hold the character. The server checks your STR and melee skill versus the target character's and determines whether you get a hold on him or not. A check is not performed in the following situations:

If successful the acting character now holds the target and can drag him wherever he wants. If not, the acting character must wait about 10 seconds before he can make a new holding attempt.

Of course, the target character can consent to the holding attempt by lowering his guard first, which means clicking the button in the lower right corner of the dialog so that the text Holding Is Allowed appears. If this button reads Holding Is A Hostile Action, the above check is performed. Also characters who are involved in a fight can not be grabbed. This is not true for NPCs which can be grabbed even when they are fighting, but it is harder. A character who is fighting and then attempts to grab another character, stops fighting. Also, the armor value of the character performing the holding attempt influences the chances of the outcome negatively. The more armor the character wears, the clumsier he is and the less likely it is that he can grab another character. This is not true however if the target is an NPC. NPCs are mostly hunted down in the wilderness and it would just be disturbing if a character had to take off his armor to grab a NPC. However when attempting to grab a PC, the armor value of the grabbing character has a negative effect on the outcome.

The holding character is automatically considered an abuser of the held character and the held character can bring up the Justice Tab and declare the character that holds him hostile which will make him flash. He can also use the F9 key as an abbreviation since holding is often done in a hectic situation, so a hotkey may help avoid some panic. However, no abuser situation exists if the held character is a prostitute and the holding character is her customer or when a master holds his slave.

The held character can bring up the same Tab and push down the Struggle To Get Free button. This will make him perform a constant struggle attempt at a frequency of about every 30 seconds that will eventually make him break free from the grip. A constant pushing and releasing is not helpful because the first struggle attempt will start 30 seconds after the button was pushed, so a constant on and off of this button will just lead to no struggle at all. However, breaking free is much harder when a character's health is below 75% that's why it is essential for character who intend to abduct and drag a character away, to hurt the victim first and lower his health.

Chaining

Once a character holds another one, he can put one of the lockable cloths on him which are effectively chains that can be locked. when a character puts chains on another character, these chains become immediately locked! You should make sure you have a key to the chains before you use them on another character, by selecting them in the inventory list first and on the Locks Tab click the Create Key button. When you put chains on a character you are holding, this character gets an extra break free attempt which might protect him from the chains and set him free at the same time!

A character who has chains on his legs can not walk or be dragged. A character who has chains on his arms can not do most actions. A ball gag will prevent him from speaking. A slave collar around his neck has no function, it's just an accessory. A character who is chained at the legs and arms and who is then forced into Standing Posture will assume a special "spread eagle" position on the ground.

Chain locks can be broken by characters with stealing skill of at least 2 with a lock pick and his stealing skill turned on. Breaking chains will not create a theft crime.

A character who puts chains on himself, does not lock the chains automatically. He can lock them manually if he has the key but he can not unlock arm bondage by himself! He will need help to get out of them. He can, however lock and unlock leg bondage provided his arms are free.

When a character with chains is attacked in full damage mode, the chains are immediately destroyed. If he was held, he is set free. This can also be used to free a character in chains, but it will cause the attacker to start flashing, so it should not be done in public. A thief with lock picks is better to free a character. This does not happen when a character is attacked in hurt only mode in order to allow BDSM players to whip their bound slaves. A hurt only attack stops automatically when the health of a character goes under 50% in order to prevent this attack type from being used to kill a character in chains slowly.

A character in chains who is placed on an altar receives an extra chance to break free, unless he has his guard down.

Towing

When a character holds an overloaded character and drags him because he can not walk by himself, that is known as towing. A character can only move if the load he is carrying is smaller than his capacity. Both values can be seen in the stats window above the paperdoll. A character that is up to 4 times over his capacity can be towed by another character, but if his loads exceeds 4 times his capacity, he has to drop some items to become lighter again.
